The VHA uses the Gross Rent when figuring the eligibility of the property in question. Gross rent is figured by adding Rent + Utilities that are equivalent to your allotted payment standard.

How to Calculate the number of Bedrooms your family qualifies for:

Head of Household +1

Minor children +1 for every one or two boys/girls

When you find a property that is suitable for your family, take the Monthly Rent + Monthly Utilities. If the cost of the apartment falls equal or below the Maximum Voucher Payment then you qualify for that residence to be covered by the VHA.
