The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is federally funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program is designed to provide affordable, safe, decent and sanitary rental housing. Assistance can be provided to low-income families, singles, elderly and individuals with disabilities.

Eligibility for a housing voucher is determined by the PHA, based on the total annual gross income and family size, and is limited to US citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. In general, the family's income may not exceed 50% of the median income for the county or metropolitan area in which the family chooses to live. By law, a PHA must provide 75 percent of its voucher to applicants whose incomes do not exceed 30 percent of the area median income. Median income levels are published by HUD and vary by location. The PHA serving your community can provide you with the income limits for your area and family size.

Attention Recent Applicants!

The Vermillion Housing Authority accepts submission of information throughout the month. The Vermillion Housing Authority has adopted the 22nd of each month as the montly cut-off date, or the date by which reported changes in the household size, or income can be received to affect rental assistance the following month. If the 22nd falls on a holiday or a weekend you will need to have your informaation submitted before that holiday or weekend. For example, in the month of September the 22nd falls on a Saturday, that means that you wil need to have your changes submitted on or before September 21st at noon for it to go into effect for October.

Submissions postmarked on the cut-off date will qualify as meeting cut-off date.

A cut-off date is utilized to assure accurate validation of reported changes, in order that you receive the assistance for which you are entitled and qualified. It takes time to verify changes reported, and to schedule appointments and/or inspections as necessary. Your cooperation is appreciated.
